Meet the 2027 Yamaha YZ250FX in Team Yamaha Blue—a cross-country off-road machine that looks fast even while it’s catching its breath on the stand. Built to live in the trees, the ruts, and the wide-open straights, this single-cylinder 250cc four-stroke is all about going the distance with a grin under your helmet.

Thumb the electric start and the liquid-cooled, DOHC, 4-valve engine comes to life ready to work. With a 13.8:1 compression ratio and Mikuni fuel injection (44mm), it’s tuned for crisp, consistent response on regular gas—so whether you’re rolling into a slick corner or hammering out of one, it’s got that clean, controlled urgency riders love in a serious off-road racer. A 6-speed manual gearbox keeps you in the sweet spot, and the chain drive delivers power the way dirt bikes should: direct and drama-free.

The chassis is made for charging. An aluminum frame and aluminum swingarm help keep the feel light and precise, while KYB suspension—an inverted fork up front with 11.8 inches of travel and a rear shock with 12 inches—brings the kind of adjustability you’ll appreciate when the trail turns from hardpack to whoops to “who put that boulder there?” With 13 inches of ground clearance, it’s ready to skim over the rough stuff rather than negotiate with it.

Rolling stock is dialed for dirt: aluminum wheels, tubed setup, and Dunlop Geomax rubber (MX33F 80/100-21 front, MX33 110/100-18 rear) for confident bite. When it’s time to scrub speed, hydraulic disc brakes handle business with a 270mm front and 240mm rear.

It’s purposeful from the seat up, too—a one-piece vinyl seat at 37.6 inches, wide bars, and a lean wet weight of 243 lbs. Add in practical protection like guards for the rotor/caliper, chain, fork, and chassis, and you’ve got a bike that’s ready to be ridden like it was designed: hard, long, and off-road. Mobile app instrumentation rounds it out with a modern touch for a machine that’s happiest far from pavement
