The first thing you notice when riding it is how little effort it takes to change direction. The wide handlebars give you tremendous leverage, the upright riding position puts you in complete control and the bike feels ready to turn almost before you have finished thinking about it. The 659cc Superquadro Mono is unlike the typical big single. It pulls hard, responds immediately and continues building power all the way toward its 10,250-rpm redline. With 77.5 horsepower moving such a lightweight motorcycle, the 698 feels genuinely fast without losing the raw, mechanical personality that makes a supermoto so much fun. The standard Ducati Quick Shift lets you run through the gears without interrupting the momentum.

Ducati also gave the 698 Mono an electronics package that allows riders to explore the bike’s limits with confidence. Cornering ABS, traction control, wheelie control, engine-brake control and multiple riding modes are working in the background, but the experience still feels direct and wonderfully unfiltered.

The new Nera version gives the bike an even more aggressive presence. Its black bodywork is contrasted by a Ducati Red frame and wheels, while the standard road-legal Termignoni silencers finish the bike with the look and sound it deserves.
