2018 Polaris Slingshot SLR - LT
More performance. More fun.
It is powered by a GM-built 173-horsepower 2.4-liter inline four-cylinder Ecotec engine, which has been used in previous generation GM compact and midsize cars, from the Saturn Ion to Chevy Malibu. It’s paired to a Sparco five-speed manual transmission that churns out 166 pound-feet of torque. No turbocharging here. In normal automobiles, it would be a boring base engine at best.
The difference with this engine on this three-wheeler is the weight. At 1,743 pounds, it’s about half the weight of midsize cars. And since there is very little sound deadening or cabin enclosing you from engine and road noise, it is the most visceral vehicular experience to be had this side of a motorcycle.
The engine roars under full throttle and begs to be redlined. The 166 pound-feet of torque available at 4,700 rpm kicks in right around 3,000 rpm. There is no doubting why it is called Slingshot. It throws you back in the seat while lifting you up at the same time. Polaris claims it can hit 60 mph in under five second
More performance equals more fun. And that's what the Slingshot SLR – LT delivers. The Slingshot Ride Command 7 multi-touch display system with turn-by-turn GPS navigation comes standard. Its sporty cockpit is topped off with a Sparco steering wheel, shift knob, and pedal covers. When you hug curves, the exclusive SLR sport bucket seats hug you back. Two-piece composite brake rotors bring everything but the fun to a halt. And a 20 305mm rear forged-aluminum wheel grips the pavement. More style, more performance, and most importantly, more fun.
Features may include:
• HELMET LAWS
Helmet laws vary from state to state and are dependent on Slingshot classification. Slingshot recommends always wearing a DOT approved full face helmet.
• LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
The classification of Slingshot is state-dependent. The most common classifications are motorcycle, which requires a motorcycle endorsement or license, and autocycle, which only requires a state drivers license.
