If gas prices and an increasingly pesky commute have you thinking more and more about an electric motorcycle to manage the urban grind, you’re probably not alone. If you’re like us though, the current crop of insect-like EV designs leaves you pining for something that looks like an actual motorbike rather than a film prop from the Tron: Ares. Cue the Maeving RM2: a low-power electric rig with solid build quality that oozes classic style instead of coming off as a beefed-up, bug-eyed bicycle. Joining the existing RM1 and RM1s solo-seaters, the RM2 is the company’s first passenger-friendly model.

You might not be familiar with Maeving, as the UK’s first electric bike maker only appeared on the scene in 2022. The brand says it focuses on stylish bikes that are simple to operate and easy to charge. This formula has been so successful in the UK that the brand expanded its footprint to the US in 2025. New models are available for purchase directly from the manufacturer, delivered right to your door. However, like their automotive equivalents, previously enjoyed models will likely find their way to the marketplace.
The new model retains Maeving’s signature blend of classic Brit-bike aesthetics with modern propulsion by using the same powertrain and removable battery foundation as the existing models. Inspired by the Triumph T120 from the 1960s, this design naturally places the rider in a more upright position. This allows for better bike control and provides more space to move around.
Design
The similarly vintage-styled RM2 keeps the steel cradle frame, faux fuel tank and large battery box, all carefully placed to maximize a certain kind of classic look, though the chassis has been beefed up and the suspension retuned to accommodate for the extra weight of a passenger. To make room for the bigger saddle seat, the RM2’s tank is shortened and widened, offering 2.2 gal of storage capacity. You can also add on an optional hard rack and lockable top box to boost the convenience factor.
Performance
The new bike retains that air-cooled brushless 7.2kW hub motor, rated for 15 hp and 193 lb-ft (no, that’s not a typo) of torque, with a top speed of 70 mph and claimed range of 80 miles. For comparison, the similarly retro-inspired Beachman ‘64 e-bike features a 2.8 or 3.6 kWh motor that allows for a top speed of 45 mph and a 70 mile range.
The rest of the RM2’s spec sheet shows a 55-inch wheelbase with 19-inch spoked wheels on either end, and a 37-mm non-adjustable fork giving 4.3 inches of travel up front. Dual exposed shocks in the back are adjustable for preload, and Maeving says suspension components have been revised on the new bike for better comfort. The linked brakes (300-mm disc with a three piston caliper front and 240-mm disc with one piston caliper in the rear), are more robust to handle the additional mass of a passenger. The 30.5-inch seat height and 320 lb curb weight should make for easy maneuverability.
Technology Integration
The nods to classic Brit bike design continue throughout the cockpit too. A round analog gauge with an LCD inset displays information like speed, charge status and ride mode (there are three to choose from). No distracting color display or app notifications to take away from the simplicity of the riding experience. Maeving says the RM2’s two removable 36 lb batteries can be charged to 80 per cent in less than three hours using a Level 1 charger, while a full charge takes an estimated 6.5 hours.
Case Study
Stylish EVs like the RM2 make a strong case for commuters. More than 80 per cent of Americans live in cities and have an average commute of 16 miles. The RM2 is definitely a welcome lightweight and hipper alternative to the robotic designs of other EV bikes. It’s more than capable of keeping up with urban traffic and you won’t use a drop of fuel. Smaller competitors like the Beachman ‘64, BMW CE-02 or RyVid Anthem feature starting MSRPs of $4,999, $7,500 and $7,999, respectively, as well as a more robust set of accessories. Equivalent to a 125 cc internal combustion moto, the RM2’s starting MSRP of $10,995 is not what you’d call a budget option.
Final Thoughts
The Maeving RM2 is a premium commuter vehicle with a focus on simplicity. The Coventry-based company has built a smooth, silent, and stylish two-seater to tackle efficient urban exploration. Instant torque, removable batteries for easy charging and simple operation make the appealing design even more attractive.
