While motorcycle riding has long been immortalized in film, there are several familiar faces that you might see hitting the open road after the cameras stop rolling. Actors, musicians, and athletes alike often choose to swap the limousines for transportation on two wheels. For many celebrities, riding is a genuine passion that allows them freedom that even fame cannot give them. Better yet, wearing a motorcycle helmet is a great way to remain anonymous.

Cycle Trader shines the spotlight on eight celebrities who enjoy trading the red carpet for the open road.

Ryan Reynolds

When he’s not delivering laughs in his iconic role as Deadpool, Ryan Reynolds is a serious motorcycle enthusiast. Having been a rider since his teens, he has developed a taste for custom café racers. With more than a few motorcycles in his garage, his prized bike is a commissioned build from Kott Motorcycles of a Triumph Thruxton. Also part of his collection is a Ducati Paul Smart 1000LE, a Honda CB750, and a Triumph Bonneville.  Ryan Reynolds expressed in an interview that he sees riding as more than a form of transportation. He uses it to unwind and escape to a different side of life beyond his film career. “I feel 100 percent that there is a spiritual connection to riding a bike,” says Reynolds. “You’re at play with the environment. You are in essence, I think, meditating.”

Robert Patrick

While you may know Robert Patrick as the infamous villain T-1000 in Terminator 2, he is also an avid motorcyclist. Having taken his love of riding to the small screen as his character on Sons of Anarchy, Patrick now serves as president of the Boozefighters MC Chapter 101. He quickly corrects anyone who thinks Boozefighters are like a traditional MC. It is a nonprofit motorcycle club made up of riders who raise funds and hold events that benefit veterans, children’s organizations, and the underserved in their local communities.

Patrick is also the co-owner of Harley-Davidson of Santa Clarita in California. The veteran actor rides across the country at least once a year, hitting the road for both personal enjoyment and to attend charity events like the Ride for Heroes.

When she’s not flying high above her sold-out concerts performing her chart-topping songs, pop star P!nk is enjoying getting out on the trails on two (and sometimes four) wheels with her family. Having married former motocross racer Carey Hart in 2006, P!nk can often be seen riding dirt bikes and four-wheelers for “family ride day” with Hart and their two children.

Norman Reedus

Riding a motorcycle is not just a character choice for his beloved zombie-hunting TV role as Daryl Dixon from The Walking Dead. Norman Reedus has long been active in motorcycle culture. Before his acting career took off, Reedus even worked as a motorcycle mechanic. Now the host of his own docu-series, Ride with Norman Reedus, the actor explores riding culture and motorcycle life on the open road with a series of special guests. Reedus rides a Honda CB750, but also has a love of Triumph, having both a Scrambler and a Tiger 800 in his personal collection.

In a recent interview with Adventure Bike Rider, Reedus sang the praises of his co-star in the Ride program. “The [Tiger 1200] Rally Pro is one of my favorite bikes ever. Even if you’re in New York and there’s tonnes of traffic. It’s good for standing up on, you can ride across country and climb a mountain as well.”

When he’s not on the big screen defending the oceans as Aquaman, Jason Momoa is hitting the open road on one of his many Harley-Davidson motorcycles. While filming in Toronto is 2020, Momoa was frequently spotted riding an electric Harley-Davidson LiveWire to clear his head and get some much needed down time when not on set. No longer a struggling actor, the now successful Momoa has spoken on how riding clears his mind and brings him focus.

Momoa owns a growing collection of vintage Harley-Davidson motorcycles, including a 1916 Model J, 1956 Harley-Davidson FL Hydra Glide Panhead, and a 1927 Harley-Davidson JD, among others.

Keanu Reeves

Appearing in over 74 films, including massive blockbuster franchise hits like The Matrix and John Wick, Keanu Reeves is a well-known motorcycle fanatic. So much so that in addition to an impressive personal collection, he founded his own motorcycle company in 2011 with friend and business partner Gard Hollinger. The project came to fruition when Hollinger modified Reeves’ Harley-Davidson Dyna to such levels that it was a drastically different motorcycle. Thus began the concept for Arch Motorcycles, a small start-up that creates bespoke, minimalist motorcycles for discerning riders. Their first model was the KRGT-1, followed by the 1S and Method 143.. They recently announced they will be participating in MotoAmerica’s Super Hooligan championship and documenting the experience in an upcoming series.

At the end of the day, celebrities are just regular people with extraordinary careers who enjoy the same small joys as many of us. The feeling of freedom that comes from hitting the open road on two wheels is a pastime enjoyed by many, including our favorite superheroes, supervillains, pop stars, and even a Jedi. Riding provides a sense of independence and allows for them to escape the daily grind and paparazzi in peace and anonymity.
