Kawasaki Reveals Updates to Z900RS Family
Carrying on the tradition of the iconic Z1, the new 2026 Z900RS family retains its retro styling but gets a host of modern technology. Debuting in 2018, the Z900RS lineup has provided a stylistic alternative to the angular and edgy Z900. It now receives the same upgraded technology while staying true to its retro-inspired roots.

The 2026 lineup includes Z900RS ABS, Z900RS SE ABS, and Z900RS Cafe ABS. A new Black Ball edition is seemingly only available on the standard RS and Cafe trims, featuring blacked-out wheels, engine and components, with a black tank and graphics.
Retro Looks, Modern Technology
Each of the models in the retro sport lineup feature a 948cc in-line four-cylinder engine that has received Electronic Throttle Valves (ETV) for 2026, in addition to a bi-directional Kawasaki Quick Shifter (KQS), and Kawasaki TRaction Control (KTRC). The addition of an Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) package includes the Kawasaki Cornering Management Function (KCMF). A sophisticated IMU tracks and measures longitudinal, transverse, and vertical axes, as well as roll, yaw, and pitch. KCMF, KTRC, and enhanced ABS then modulate engine power, braking, and stability controls to optimize acceleration, braking, and handling.
Additional updates include electronic cruise control, new megaphone-style muffler, and reshaped exhaust headers. Smartphone connectivity featuring voice command and navigation are available via Kawasaki’s Rideology App.
Performance Updates
Refinements have been made to the liquid-cooled, DOHC, 16-valve 948cc in-line four-cylinder engine to enhance responsiveness and performance. Revised cam profiles increase both duration and lift, compression has been increased from 10.8:1 to 11.8:1, while Intake and exhaust valves have also been optimized. Downdraft throttle bodies, the airbox, and valve sizing were all revised to collectively contribute to a stronger, sportier character throughout the rev range.
The Electronic Throttle Valves provide an additional layer of precision for engine management, allowing efficient combustion, linear acceleration and improved fuel economy.
Smartphone Connectivity
The Rideology app allows riders to wirelessly access the fuel gauge, odometer, and maintenance schedules, as well as riding logs that track GPS routes, and vehicle performance. Riders can view route information on their smartphone, search for destinations, store waypoints, and adjust route sequences, as well as monitor incoming calls and messages on the instrument cluster.
Z900RS Cafe ABS
The Z900RS Cafe ABS offers the signature front cowl, creating a sportier profile, but also wind protection for longer rides. Drop handlebars accommodate the cowling, while the seat gets a more pronounced step and the silencer and exhaust heat guard receive a different finish. Rather than a raised emblem, the Kawasaki logo and graphics are applied right on the tank.
Z900RS SE ABS
The 2026 SE uses metallic black bodywork contrasted by vibrant Fireball Orange paint and transfer-film graphics, complemented by gold-colored forks and wheels. The special edition Z900RS SE ABS brings even more performance through an upgraded Brembo brake package (featuring M4.32 calipers and stainless steel braided brake lines) and Öhlins rear suspension. It also features a USB-C outlet for added convenience.
