The hits just keep coming at EICMA 2025, with multiple manufacturers launching new adventure models. Norton took the covers off its upcoming Atlas and Atlas GT while BSA unveiled their all-new Thunderbolt. BMW, perhaps the brand most synonymous with the segment, offered a preview of the 2027 F 450 GS to address the growing market interest in medium-sized displacement adventure bikes.
More than just a mini version of the R 1300 GS, the 450 GS embodies the essence of the lineup but has its own distinct personality. Said to be designed from the ground up, similarities can certainly be seen among its GS siblings. Weighing only 393 lbs., the riding experience is said to be agile and intuitive with a modern and accessible approach to both touring and off-road riding. The shape of the 3.6 gallon tank and ergonomics of the riding position have been designed for comfort and control, whether sitting or standing. The new GS comes with a two-piece 33.3-inch seat as standard, but a lower 32.7-inch and higher black, white and red 34-inch Rallye seat are available as accessories.

Performance comes from a newly developed 420 cc parallel-twin engine, making 48 hp at 8,750 rpm and 32 lb-ft of torque at 6,750 rpm. BMW says that the engine features a crankshaft with crankpins offset by 135-degrees and uses a single balance shaft which offers character but reduces unwanted vibrations. The engine is incorporated as a structural member of the lattice-tube frame.

The GS gets a KYB upside-down telescopic fork with a 43 mm inner tube diameter up front. Sport and Trophy variants get adjustable rebound and compression damping. The rear features a hollow-cast aluminum double-sided swing arm, coupled with a directly connected KYB central spring strut with adjustable spring preload and rebound damping. It also gets travel-dependent damping – a unique feature in this segment that was derived from rally racing.
Braking is handled by a floating single-disc brake with a Brembo 4-piston fixed caliper and a 310 mm disc up front, and a single disc brake with one-piston floating caliper and 240 mm disc in the rear. Lightweight cast aluminum wheels with tubeless tires come standard, measuring 100/90-19 in the front and 130/80-17 at the rear.
The six-speed transmission can be operated with a bi-directional quick shifter in all but the Basic variant as standard equipment, but it can be added as an accessory. One of the 450’s highlights being touted is the Easy Ride Clutch (ERC). Standard on the GS Trophy and available on the other trims, it removes the need to use the clutch lever at all, unless you want to override the system at any time. The 450 GS features Rain, Road, and Enduro riding modes as standard features, with an additional Enduro Pro riding mode on the Exclusive trim variant that allows ABS to be deactivated on the rear wheel. Standard equipment also includes ABS Pro, Dynamic Brake Control (DBC), Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), and engine drag torque control (MSR).
The GS features an LED headlight with a familiar “X” daytime light signature as standard. A 6.5-inch TFT display provides detailed information on DTC, braking force, and lean angle. A USB-C socket allows for phone charging and connectivity for phone calls, music, and navigation while riding.

The 450 GS comes well equipped, with Shift Assistant Pro, Rain, Road, and Enduro riding modes, ABS Pro, DBC, DTC, and MSR, a KYB upside-down telescopic fork up front, with a hollow-cast aluminum double-sided swing arm with a KYB central spring strut in the rear with, spring preload and rebound adjustability and with travel-dependent damping. It also features adjustable gearshift, footbrake, and hand levers, heated grips, LED headlights, a 6.5-inch TFT display, and a USB-C socket.
An Akrapovic end muffler, handlebar risers, aluminum engine guard, windshield and low and high Rallye seat options, and original BMW Motorrad cross-spoke wheels will be available as accessories, in addition to luggage systems like side bags, tail bags, luggage rolls, tank bags, racks, and top cases.

The BMW F 450 GS will be offered in four trim variants: Basic and Exclusive (Cosmic Black), Sport (Racing Red), and Trophy (Racing Blue Metallic).
The new BMW F 450 GS is expected to start landing in U.S. dealerships late in 2026 or early 2027, with pricing announcements expected closer to on sale date.
