KTM Shares Full Specs for 390 and 125 SMC R Supermotos

KTM is launching two smaller-capacity, single-cylinder supermotos aimed at the A1 and A2 license-holding market. The new models, the 390 SMC R and 125 SMC R, are set to hit UK dealerships in March 2025.

Upgraded Features

The supermoto engines have been optimized with a new airbox design that raises the engine for better ground clearance and a more dynamic riding position. Weight has been reduced by 2kg, thanks to a new stainless steel exhaust system. Both models come equipped with a standard slipper clutch, with an optional quickshifter available.

Expanding the Family

These new SMC R models join the 690 SMC R. Like other KTM and Husqvarna 390 and 125 models, they’ll be manufactured in India by Bajaj Auto, KTM’s production partner. The bikes were first showcased as pre-production models at the EICMA trade show in Milan last November.

Shared DNA

Both the 390 and 125 supermotos share a similar chassis and components. They’re equipped with 17-inch road-biased wheels and feature traditional supermoto styling. This includes a single front headlight, raised front mudguard, minimalist bodywork, and a nine-litre metal fuel tank.

Enhanced Chassis

The supermotos and the enduros are very similar, with the main difference being the wheel sizes. The riding position, handlebars, and seat have been adjusted for a better riding experience. The two-piece steel trellis frame has been adapted from the Duke series, incorporating a new steering head angle, triple clamps, subframe mounts, and improved rigidity. Other updates include better radiator clearance and repositioned footpegs for sharper lean angles.

Advanced Motorcycle Technology

Despite targeting beginner riders, these supermotos are packed with fantastic technology. Both models feature full LED lighting, a 4.2-inch TFT dash with bonded glass to reduce glare, and turn-by-turn navigation capability. They also include two-channel Bosch ABS with adjustable intervention. The 390 SMC R offers additional riding modes, such as ‘Sport’ and ‘Street.’ In Sport mode, traction control can be fully disabled.
