Rider Magazine Announces 2024 Motorcycle of the Year
Rider magazine has spent the last 50 years testing nearly every street-legal motorcycle on the market. Every year, the magazine names a Motorcycle of the Year based on the design, performance, and function of the bike. Out of almost 100 contenders, Rider magazine selected the BMW R 1300 GS as the 2024 Motorcycle of the Year.

BMW R 1300 GS Named 2024 Motorcycle of the Year by Rider Magazine
The BMW R 1300 GS’s recent accolade from Rider magazine is the third time a bike in BMW’s R-series GS has earned the publication’s Motorcycle of the Year honor. It’s also an impressive feat from the maker considering their latest updates to the 2025 BMW M and S Series.
BMW first unveiled this new adventure bike in September 2023, during the 100th anniversary of BMW Motorrad’s first production motorcycle. The BMW R 1300 GS is optimized for comfortable riding on off-road terrain. A powerful 145-horsepower, four-stroke boxer engine delivers outstanding performance and impressive control. The R 1300 GS weighs 26 pounds less than its predecessor, the R 1250 GS, with a higher displacement from 1,254cc to 1,300cc.
Rider also praised the R 1300 GS for its dynamic frame and athletic look, as well as the new EVO Telelever and EVO Paralever suspension that offer nimble precision and riding stability. The variable seat height between 31.5 and 35 inches on the standard rider’s seat, along with an optional adaptive height control, also scored high with their team.
“Hands down, the R 1300 GS is the best GS yet,” Rider magazine wrote after test driving the bike at its global launch. “The traits that the boxer-powered GS are known for—engine character, balance, comfort, and versatility—are better than ever. It looks and feels much slimmer than before, and the increased power and torque are impressive.”
