This 1980 Yamaha XS1100 Midnight Special is a one-owner, well-kept example of motorcycle history.

The XS1100 was the first four-cylinder, four-stroke motorcycle from Yamaha. It earned a reputation as a robust and reliable bike. It was the first production bike to run a sub-12 second 1/4 mile time (11.78 sec. @ 114.21 mph), earning the nickname, The Eleven.

The Midnight Special is a limited edition of only 250 in 1980 and 500 total! It was displayed on the turn table at Freemans Cycle Ranch in Albion, New York, where it was purchased for $5800 in April 1980, equal to $23,000 in 2024.

It is finished in black with gold accents and powered by a 1,101cc DOHC inline-four and paired with a five-speed transmission.

Equipment includes an enclosed driveshaft, a stepped two-up seat, a four-into-two exhaust system, four Mikuni carburetors, cast alloy wheels, triple-disc brakes, color-matched fenders, engine guards, and both center and side stands. Factory-rated output was 95 horsepower and 66 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheel through a wet multi-plate clutch, a five-speed transmission, and a driveshaft enclosed within the left leg of the swingarm.

The original owner was 29 years old when he purchased it new and kept it for 44 years before surgery forced him to let it go this year. He took it on a 25-mile cruise along the lake almost daily with his wife. She didn't like to go fast, so they mostly cruised around 45mph. It was ridden every year from 1980-2024.

The bike was never beaten or laid down and was garage-kept under a cover every night. It was maintained in the personal shop of a head motorcycle mechanic.

Recent work includes
-Cleaned Master cyl, flushed brake fluid,Brake fluid dot4
-Changed all fluidsTransmission oil Hyp 80/90 Bel-rayMotor oil 10-40 MotulHF146 oil filter
-Replaced all brake pads rear rotor, and rebuilt rear caliper.
