Pre-ride Checklist

It's a beautiful day outside. Ready for a ride? Are you really ready?
Is your motorcycle ready?

Taking a few minutes to make sure may save you pain and troubles down the road. To help make your pre-ride checklist easier to remember, the Motorcycle Safety Foundation invented the acronym T-CLOCS.

T: Tires and wheels. Tire pressures correct? Any cuts or damage to the tire tread? Check for dings on the rims or loose spokes.

C: Controls and cables. Throttle, clutch and brake levers should operate smoothly. Make sure cables don't bind or stick and brakes feel firm.

L: Lights. Do the brake lights come on when you brake? Test turn signals and check headlights.

O: Oil and fuel. Running out of gas is a hassle. Running low on oil can be catastrophic for your engine. Check both.

C: Chassis. Is your suspension adjusted properly for your weight? For a passenger, if you're carrying one? Poorly adjusted suspension reduces your control.

S: Side stand and center stand. Motorcycles don't stand up by themselves on two wheels. Make sure your side stand and center stand are not bent or damaged.
