SELLER DESCRIPTION

1974 MZ TOUR, once you kick it over, it's tons of fun! mz stands for motorrade zschopau, a german factory at zschopau in the erzgebirge region of saxony. the mz two-stroke engine, designed by engineer walter kadden, influenced motorcycle racing for decades. kaaden's revolutionary design was copied in the sixties by yamaha and suzuki, whose two-stroke engines became competitivew racers only after they implemented mz engine secrets. during the 1960's mz was a dominant competitor in the international six day trial, winning the world trophy in '63, '64, '65, '66, '67 and '69. the mz 250 commemorates this achievement with a special gas tank cap. by 197o mz had produced over one million motorcycles.i aquired this bike a little over a year ago from a gentleman who had had it since the late '90's. he pulled it out of it's original factory box (missing a few odds and ends) and fully assembled it with pieces salvaged from another spare 250. it utilizes a single cylinder engine rated at 21hp, 4-speed gearbox, six volt battery system, oil-gas premix for fuel, and lucas electrics for lighting. the engine is rubber mounted and suprisingly smoothe, with a top speed of over 75 mph once properly run in. these motorcycles are simple, durable and reliable.the original factory blue paint looks pretty nice given its humble origins, and the chrome and alloy remain in good condition as well. there are minor rust speckles on a few items like footrests, cable boots and drive chain tunnels. the battery cover was loose in the shipping crate and the blue paint got scraped slightly from sliding around. the electrical system is sound, the engine makes good power and shifts through all gears. head and tail lights work, even the original turn signals are functioning, but the correct brake light switch was never found. i also have a haynes service manual included.this was originally purchased for my riding partner and girlfriend who soon after fell in love with a '68 suzuki t120, now the mz sits, waiting for a new life. it needs some tlc, meaning it hasn't been started in months. once you kick it over, it's tons of fun! $2,500, 512-699-0102
